Real Madrid welcomed Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium earlier tonight as they hoped to pick up maximum points at home. The two teams struggled to be clinical in the final third and had to settle for a goalless scoreline at the half-time break.
It was a similar story in the second 45 minutes as well with both sides canceling each other out as the contest ended 0-0 after the full-time whistle. Even with that result, Carlo Ancelotti’s men remain at the top of the La Liga table.
Let’s take a look at how each Real Madrid player performed during the clash against Villarreal.
GK: Thibaut Courtois – 7/10
The Belgian keeper made a couple of good saves and did enough to secure a clean sheet in front of the home supporters.
RB: Federico Valverde – 6.5/10
He won the ball back a few times and also managed to orchestrate two good chances for his teammates to score.
CB: Eder Militao – 7/10
The Real Madrid centre-back made a few crucial interceptions and didn’t take too many risks when putting his foot through the ball.
CB: David Alaba – 7.5/10
Alaba read the danger quite well and cleared his lines when needed. He has got a well-deserved clean sheet to show for his efforts.
LB: Nacho – 7/10
He kept a solid shape inside his half and had a couple of bright moments in the Villarreal half.
CM: Marco Asensio – 6.5/10
The Spaniard showed some signs of promise but overall, he didn’t do enough to help his team win the game.
CM: Casemiro – 7/10
The Brazilian talent anchored the midfield with conviction but lacked quality in the final third.
CM: Luka Modric – 6/10
The veteran midfielder struggled to get any real control in midfield and flattered to deceive with his performance tonight.
RW: Rodrygo – 6/10
He was relatively quiet in the first half and got replaced at half-time.
ST: Karim Benzema – 6.5/10
Benzema squandered some inviting opportunities to find the back of the net. However, he deserves praise for being a constant nuisance for the Villarreal defenders.
LW: Vinicius Junior – 6.5/10
He tried to make things happen but came up short tonight in the final third. It was an outing to forget for the Brazilian speedster.
Substitutes:
CM: Eduardo Camavinga – 6/10
He added some energy and freshness to Ancelotti’s midfield.
CAM: Eden Hazard – 6/10
Hazard created a couple of meaningful openings but couldn’t help his team win.
CM: Isco – 6/10
He was Ancelotti’s last throw of the dice.
