In a recent report, Fichajes revealed that Real Madrid are locked in a three-way battle for Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger. It is understood that Los Blancos could face competition in the form of Bayern Munich and Juventus in the race to land the German centre-back.
Rudiger’s Impressive Run Of Form At Stamford Bridge Last Season
Rudiger experienced a decent campaign with his current employers as he managed to produce some dominant displays at the centre of Thomas Tuchel’s defence. The Berlin-born talent made 34 appearances for the Blues last season, finding the back of the net once and picking up one assist in the process across various competitions.
The 28-year-old deserves a pat on the back for being a consistent performer inside his half after he averaged 1.6 tackles, 0.9 interceptions and 2.7 clearances per game in the 2020-21 Premier League campaign. The ex-AS Roma talent even took care of the ball relatively well when interchanging possession with his teammates because he completed 89.4% of his attempted passes in the English top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Rudiger is growing in confidence with each season and could prove to be a shrewd addition to Real Madrid’s squad next year if Carlo Ancelotti can devise a way to lure him to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. At 28, the German defensive ace is playing at his peak and has what it takes to be a regular starter for Los Blancos at the highest level.
Is Rudiger A Good Choice For Los Blancos?
Rudiger is a powerful presence in the air as he can use his strong 1.90m frame to outmuscle the opposition and win some important 50-50 aerial duels for his team. He can read the danger quickly and can get stuck in with a few solid tackles to win possession back on the defensive end of the field.
The German international can also make some crucial last-ditch clearances and hardly gives away the ball when playing his way out from the back. Rudiger would be a good signing for Los Blancos as he will add a lot of bite and steel to Ancelotti’s defensive department.
The Premier League defender could even go on to form a dominant centre-back partnership with David Alaba at the Bernabeu over the next few years. With all things considered, Rudiger would be a decent choice for Ancelotti to consider when the transfer window reopens in January. Another option for the Madrid giants would be to wait until next summer before moving in for him as the Blues might be more inclined to sell him then.
