In a recent report, Diario Madridista stated that Real Madrid could cash in on Eden Hazard next summer. It has been revealed that Los Blancos have decided to let a few players leave which includes the Belgian international so that they can fund a move for Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe and Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland in 2022.
Hazard’s Injury Plagued Season At The Santiago Bernabeu Stadium
The ex-Chelsea talent had another disappointing season at the Spanish capital as he missed a lot of games due to multiple injuries. Hazard could only manage to appear in 21 matches for the Madrid outfit in the previous campaign, netting four goals and securing one assist in various competitions.
Exactly half of Hazard’s league appearances came off the bench which explains why he averaged 0.7 shots, 0.4 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga last season. However, the Belgian distributed the ball exceptionally well after making 88.4% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
Hazard looked like a shell of his former self during his time with Real Madrid. Unless he can rapidly turn things around for the better, it is likely that Carlo Ancelotti might consider cashing in on him at the end of this campaign.
Should Los Blancos Cut Hazard Loose This Summer?
On his day, Hazard can be an unstoppable force in the opposition half as he has got the ability to go on long runs with the ball and can unlock the opponent’s backline with a decisive pass in the final third. During his Chelsea days, the Belgian sensation was an excellent finisher in front of the opposition goal. However, his offensive numbers have dried up at Madrid, so the player could benefit from seeking a move elsewhere so that he can make a fresh start away from Spanish football.
Real Madrid would be wise to cut Hazard loose as they cannot afford to keep someone of his high wages in their match-day squad unless he starts delivering on the field. At 30, the former Premier League star is a player on the decline and won’t have any real worth in the long run.
With all things considered, both Hazard and the Madrid club should think about parting ways with each other next summer. Ancelotti could use the funds generated from his exit to make some marquee additions like Haaland and Mbappe before the start of the next campaign.
