Manchester United locked horns with West Ham United earlier tonight, hoping to kickstart their Carabao Cup campaign with a victory. Manuel Lanzini opened the scoreline for the visitors in the 9th minute as he put the ball past Dean Henderson from Ryan Frederick’s low cross. The hosts made several attempts at making a comeback, but David Moyes’ men were too stubborn to concede a goal.
Let’s take a look at how each Manchester United player fared during the clash against the Hammers.
Manchester United Players Rated In Loss Vs West Ham United
Dean Henderson 7
The English shot-stopper made some terrific saves in the closing moments to keep his side in the game.
Alex Telles 4
The Brazilian left-back got outmuscled and outpaced twice by Ryan Fredericks in the first 15 minutes of the match. The goal came as a result of Telles’ negligence at the back.
Victor Lindelof 6
The Swedish defender had some nervy moments while defending, but he paired well with Bailly to keep Manchester United in the game.
Eric Bailly 6.5
The Ivorian centre-back hardly put a foot wrong throughout the 90 minutes. He made some brilliant tackles and interceptions to stop the West Ham attackers from finding the back of the net for the second time.
Diogo Dalot 6
The Portuguese right-back fared well defensively, but his crosses lacked quality.
Nemanja Matic 6.5
The Serbian international played quite well in the first half as he dominated the midfield proceedings and carried the ball into some of the most dangerous areas. However, he ran out of fuel in the second forty-five minutes.
Donny van de Beek 7
The Dutch midfielder’s overall ball distribution was excellent. He controlled the tempo for the majority of the match as he pulled the strings from midfield. He even set up a golden chance for Mason Greenwood.
Jadon Sancho 5.5
The former Borussia Dortmund superstar showed glimpses of brilliance time and again, but he’ll need some time to adjust to the new atmosphere.
Juan Mata 6
The 33-year-old hit the crossbar in the first half, and that’s the closest Manchester United went to scoring a goal tonight.
Jesse Lingard 5.5
It was a decent performance from the Englishman, but he lacked the clinical touch in the final third.
Anthony Martial 2
Besides squandering two half-decent chances in the first forty-five minutes, the Frenchman offered absolutely nothing with his off the ball movements. He wasn’t even willing to try to turn things around. A shambolic performance overall.
