Calciomercato has recently reported that Manchester City are set to rival Paris Saint-Germain for AC Milan left-back Theo Hernandez. It is believed that the Mancunian giants are eyeing a move for the French defender who is under contract at San Siro until the summer of 2024.
Hernandez’s Impressive Form In Italian Football Last Season
Hernandez had an outstanding campaign with the Milan giants recently as he put in a handful of productive displays for them down the left flank. The Marseille-born talent registered eight goals and eight assists in 45 matches for the Italian club last season on all fronts.
The 23-year-old was a consistent presence at both ends of the field after he averaged 1.5 tackles, 1.0 interceptions, 1.5 clearances, 1.4 shots, 1.3 key passes and 2.2 dribbles per game in Serie A last season. He was also excellent when distributing the ball from the left-back position based on his pass completion rate of 83.1% in league football (stats via whoscored).
Hernandez has established himself as one of the most productive full-backs in European football, so Man City will do well to lure him to the Etihad Stadium during the January transfer window or at the end of this campaign.
What Will Hernandez Add To Pep Guardiola’s Team?
Hernandez has proven himself to be a reliable presence at the back as he is a good tackler of the ball and can pull off a few crucial interceptions for his side. He doesn’t take too many risks when putting his foot through the ball but can be a tidy passer of the ball as well when needed.
The French left-back can chip in by picking up his fair share of goals and assists in the final third. Furthermore, he can use his quickness to get to the byline and whip in some inviting crosses into the opposition penalty box.
At 23, Hernandez’s best years are ahead of him, so Man City will do well to snap him up in the future. We can expect the AC Milan star to add a lot of quality to Pep Guardiola’s starting XI and could serve as an upgrade over Oleksandr Zinchenko who has been quite injury-prone over the past 12 months.
Guardiola could be the perfect man to unlock the best out of Hernandez if he can successfully bring him to the Etihad Stadium. The Frenchman has also got what it takes to help Man City maintain their stranglehold in English football and even end their long wait for the UEFA Champions League trophy in the not-too-distant future.
