Liverpool faced off against Leeds United at Elland Road earlier this evening as they looked to return to winning ways in the Premier League. The Reds made a strong start to the game and took the lead in the 20th minute courtesy of Mohamed Salah’s clinical finish. The Merseyside club controlled the game well and cruised to a 1-0 lead at half-time.
Jurgen Klopp’s men managed to double their advantage in the 50th minute when Fabinho scored with a tidy strike from close range. Pascal Struijk was sent off at the hour mark for a horror challenge on Harvey Elliott. Sadio Mane added another goal for Liverpool in injury-time as the contest finished with the Reds securing a comfortable 3-0 victory away at West Yorkshire.
Let’s take a look at how each Liverpool player performed during the match against the Whites.
GK: Alisson Becker – 7/10
The Brazilian keeper made some solid stops to keep his clean intact. He was excellent with his ball distribution as well.
RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7/10
The English right-back was defensively solid but his final ball let him down today. Still, he ended the game with an assist to his name for setting up Salah’s first-half goal.
CB: Joel Matip – 8/10
The Cameroonian centre-back’s adventurous run led to Salah’s goal in the first half. He kept a good shape at the back and cruised to an easy clean sheet on the road.
CB: Virgil Van Dijk – 8/10
Van Dijk didn’t put a foot wrong in the game and built some decent plays out from the back. It was another classy display from him today.
LB: Andrew Robertson – 7/10
The Scottish full-back was full of energy down the left wing and looked like he is slowly but surely getting back to his best.
CM: Harvey Elliott – 8/10
Elliott put in an outstanding performance in the first half. He linked up play quite well with others around him. But it was a horrible end to his day as he had to be stretched off because of a serious injury.
CM: Fabinho – 9/10
The Brazilian midfield ace won most of his 50-50 duels in midfield and got his name on the scoresheet with a good finish from close range. He probably deserves the man of the match award.
CM: Thiago Alcantara – 7.5/10
Thiago passed the ball quite well and picked up an assist for setting up Sadio Mane’s goal.
RW: Mohamed Salah – 8.5/10
The Egyptian winger caused all sorts of problems for the opposition and scored the all-important first goal for Liverpool.
ST: Diogo Jota – 7/10
Jota began the game a bit slow but was always looking to get in behind the Leeds backline. He was a constant menace throughout his time on the field and created plenty of chances for his teammates to score.
LW: Sadio Mane – 6/10
The Senegalese winger probably should have bagged a hattrick with the amount of clear-cut chances he got. He was lacklustre with his finishing but still managed to register a late goal with a powerful finish from close range.
Substitutes:
CM: Jordan Henderson – 7/10
The English midfielder passed the ball well after coming off the bench.
ST: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – N/A
He hardly had any time to influence the game.
CM: Naby Keita – N/A
Keita came on for the final few minutes of the game.
