In a recent report, Il Milanista mentioned that Liverpool have set their sights on AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie after identifying himself as a suitable back-up for Fabinho. It is believed that the Milan giants are prepared to offer the Reds a chance to sign the Ivory Coast international but would ask for Thiago Alcantara in return.
Kessie’s Decent Run Of Form In Italian Football
It was an encouraging campaign for Kessie in Italian football recently as he took great strides towards improving himself at the heart of AC Milan’s midfield. The 24-year-old registered 14 goals and six assists in 50 appearances for the Italian outfit last season in all competitions.
The Ouragahio-born midfield ace proved himself to be a key asset for his team in both halves based on his average of 1.4 tackles, 1.2 interceptions, 1.3 clearances, 1.3 shots, 0.8 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. He even distributed the ball with accuracy after making 88.9% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Italian football (stats via whoscored).
Kessie’s current deal at San Siro is set to expire at the end of this campaign. Hence, it is no surprise that the Milan outfit are desperately looking to get something back for him in January or else risk losing him as a free agent next summer. Hence, the Reds are in a strong position if they decide to move in for the Ivory Coast star in the not-too-distant future.
What Will Kessie Bring To Anfield?
Kessie is a tough-tackling midfielder who has got the hunger to make some important interceptions for his side at the centre of the park. He works his socks off to hamper the opposition’s flow in the game and is not shy of clearing his lines when needed.
The Ivory Coast midfielder established himself as a decent goal-getter for the Milan club last season. He can even create some encouraging chances for his teammates to find the back of the net. Therefore, Liverpool would be wise to devise a plan to bring Kessie to the red half of Merseyside in 2022.
At 24, the best is yet to come from the Serie A star, so Jurgen Klopp can expect to make the most out of his talents if the Reds end up acquiring his services. Kessie will bring a lot of bite and steel to Klopp’s midfield department at Anfield. He will also increase competition for places within the Liverpool squad in the coming seasons. However, Klopp would be better off keeping hold of Thiago Alcantara as he could potentially land Kessie on a free transfer when his AC Milan contract expires at the end of this campaign.
