In a recent tweet, Metro journalist Aden-Jay Wood revealed that Liverpool are long-term admirers of Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Yves Bissouma. However, it is understood that the Reds could face competition in the form of Manchester United and Arsenal in the race to land the Mali international, potentially in January.
I'm told there remains long-standing interest in Brighton's Yves Bissouma from several clubs including Man United, Arsenal and Liverpool. Bissouma, who has 2yrs left on his current deal, is happy on the south coast, but one that could be revisited in January. #BHAFC #ARS #MUFC

Bissouma’s Excellent Form At The American Express Community Stadium Last Season
Bissouma successfully established himself as a reliable holding midfielder in Graham Potter’s starting XI last season when he put in several dominant displays for the Seagulls in English football. The 25-year-old featured in 39 matches for his current club in the previous campaign, scoring two goals and picking up nine yellow cards across all competitions.
The Issia-born talent was a consistent performer at the heart of the Brighton midfield based on his average of 2.9 tackles, 1.8 interceptions, 1.8 clearances, 1.2 shots and 1.5 dribbles per game in the 2020-21 Premier League campaign. He even took good care of the ball when distributing possession from midfield after making 87.4% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Bissouma has taken great strides towards improving his overall game over the past couple of seasons. Therefore, if he continues to perform at a high level this season, the Reds should think about stepping up their pursuit to sign the Mali international.
Should The Reds Launch A Move For Bissouma In January?
Bissouma is proficient at making some strong tackles to disrupt the opposition’s flow in the game and win possession back for his team. He can protect his backline quite well by snuffing out the danger quickly when his teammates are on the backfoot.
The 18-time Mali international loves to make some hard-working runs with the ball from midfield and hardly gives away the ball when passing it in the opponent’s half. He can even strike the ball with a lot of venom or even contribute by scoring the odd goal from time to time.
An all-around midfielder of Bissouma’s skillset will be a decent option for Liverpool to consider when the transfer window commences once again in January. He is good enough to nail down a regular starting spot in Jurgen Klopp’s first team and could go on to form a dominant midfield partnership with Fabinho and Jordan Henderson at Anfield in the coming seasons.
Bissouma will add a lot of bite and steel to Klopp’s midfield and could enhance the overall depth of his squad. Thus, the Merseyside giants should think about launching an official bid to secure the signature of the former LOSC Lille talent in January.
