Fichajes has recently reported that Liverpool are eyeing a January move for Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Yves Bissouma. It has been revealed that the Reds ‘have already closed’ a deal to sign the Mali talent next year.
Bissouma’s Growing Influence In English Football
The 25-year-old enjoyed a decent run of form at the American Express Community Stadium last season when he put in a series of commanding displays at the centre of Brighton’s midfield. Bissouma registered two goals and nine yellow cards in 39 appearances for the Seagulls in the previous campaign across all fronts.
The former LOSC Lille talent gave a good account of himself as a key member of Graham Potter’s midfield department by averaging 2.9 tackles, 1.8 interceptions, 1.8 clearances, 1.2 shots and 1.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football last season. He was even excellent with his ball distribution after making 87.4% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Bissouma is maturing into a top talent under the expert tutelage of Potter, so the Reds would do well to engineer a move to bring the Mali international to Anfield during the January transfer window or at the end of this campaign.
Is Bissouma The Right Fit For The Reds?
Bissouma is a tough-tacking central midfielder who is usually quick to sense the danger and can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his team. The Mali international can cover a lot of ground inside his half and doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when required.
The Brighton star is a decent passer of the ball as well and can even make a few energetic runs towards the opponent’s penalty box. He has a high work rate and deserves credit for transforming himself into a dominant presence at the centre of the park.
Bissouma will be a great fit for Liverpool as he ticks all the right boxes in terms of what Jurgen Klopp demands from his midfielders. The Mali sensation could even go on to form an excellent midfield partnership with Fabinho which will free up the Reds head coach to play with four attackers up top if needed. Thus, Liverpool would be wise to go all out in pursuit of Bissouma in the upcoming winter transfer window.
