Manchester United locked horns with BSC Young Boys at the Wankdorf Stadium earlier tonight, hoping to kickstart their UEFA Champions League campaign will all three points. Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoreline in the 13-minute-mark as he capitalised on Bruno Fernandes’ outside of the boot cross to make it 1-0 for the hosts. However, Aaron Wan-Bissaka received a red card 20 minutes later, which changed the entire complexion of the game. Moumi Ngamaleu and Theoson Siebatcheu scored two goals in the second half to turn it around and secure a 2-1 win for the hosts.
Let’s take a look at how each Manchester United player fared during tonight’s clash.
Manchester United Players Rated In Loss Vs Young Boys
David De Gea 6
The Spanish shot-stopper made a couple of decent saves to keep his side in the game. However, there’s nothing he could have done about the goals he conceded.
Luke Shaw 5
The England left-back might have done better to prevent Young Boys’ first goal of the game. He left Silvan Hefti completely unmarked down the left flank, giving him space and time to deliver a low cross into the box.
Victor Lindelof 5.5
It was a decent performance from the Swedish defender overall. There’s hardly anything else he could have done to help his side under those circumstances.
Harry Maguire 6
Manchester United’s best defender on the pitch tonight. The skipper won some crucial headers and made numerous important challenges in an effort to keep things tidy at the back.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka 4
The contact might have been accidental, but it was more or less worthy of a red card.
Fred 5.5
The Brazilian midfielder retained the ball quite well in midfield.
Donny van de Beek 5
The Dutchman was not at all confident in possession of the ball as he looked to secure sideways and backwards passes most of the time. He lacked the creative intent in the opposition half.
Paul Pogba 6
The France international helped his side deal with congested situations at the centre of the park. He shielded the ball quite well on numerous occasions to take the sting off the opposition moves.
Bruno Fernandes 6
Assisted his countryman Cristiano Ronaldo via a brilliant outside of the boot cross.
Jadon Sancho 5
Sancho had a disappointing 35 minutes on the pitch tonight. He severely struggled with decision making in the final third, and his link-up play wasn’t as impressive either.
Cristiano Ronaldo 7
The Portuguese striker played his part by netting a goal for the visitors quite early on in the match.

He added some much-needed energy to United’s backline.
Nemanja Matic 5
He came on for Bruno Fernandes in the 72nd minute.
Jesse Lingard 2
It took him exactly 23 minutes to win the game – but for the opposition.
Anthony Martial N/A
It was too late when he came on.
