In a recent report, The Sun claimed that Everton are showing interest in Aberdeen full-back Calvin Ramsay in January. It is believed that the Toffees are eyeing a move for the talented Scottish youngster during the winter transfer window.
Ramsay’s Impressive Rise At The Pittodrie Stadium
At such a tender age, Ramsay has already managed to break into the Aberdeen first team after coming through their youth ranks over the past few years. The Scottish full-back has participated in 18 senior matches for his current employers so far, picking up five assists in the process across all fronts.
The 18-year-old has caught the eye with his all-around contributions for Aberdeen down the right flank as he is averaging 0.6 tackles, 1.0 interceptions, 2.2 clearances, 2.8 key passes, 2.2 crosses and 1.4 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Scottish Premiership. He even distributed the ball with conviction based on his pass success rate of 85.8% in league football (stats via whoscored).
Ramsey has shown plenty of signs of improvement so far in this campaign and seems destined to have a bright future at the highest level. Therefore, he could be a good signing for the Toffees to pursue when the transfer window reopens at the start of next year.
Is Ramsay A Prospect For The Future?
Ramsay can work hard towards winning the ball back inside his half and usually clears the danger when at risk of being caught out at the back. He loves to make some eye-catching runs with the ball down the right-wing.
The Aberdeen-born talent can deliver a few inviting crosses into the opponent’s penalty area and is slowly transforming himself into a good creator of chances from the right flank. He hardly gives away the ball which should make him a decent fit for Rafael Benitez’s style of play at Goodison Park. At 18, the one-time Scotland Under-21 international has managed to establish himself as a prominent feature in the Scottish top-flight.
Ramsay has all the skillset required to serve as a perfect successor to Seamus Coleman who is edging closer towards the twilight years of his playing career. The Scottish sensation is undoubtedly a prospect to watch out for in the future, so Everton would be wise to launch a move to secure his services in the January transfer window. Furthermore, an experienced manager like Benitez would be the perfect man to oversee Ramsay’s development in the years to come.
