During an interview with Football FanCast, David Norris has tipped Ian Poveda to move on. The former professional believes that the future of the Leeds United forward, currently on loan at Blackburn Rovers, is as good as over.
“I mean, I think we’ve said before about Bielsa, if you’re not for him and he doesn’t trust you, that’s normally the end of it. And I feel like with this one, it’s not that he’s not been given a chance or they’re just wanting to get him some games, I think that’ll be the end of him. I’d expect him to move on.”, Norris told Football FanCast.
How Is Ian Poveda Doing At Blackburn?
Ian Poveda joined Blackburn Rovers late in the transfer window after falling out of favour under Marcelo Bielsa during the second half of last season. He made the move back to the Championship in an attempt to find a breakthrough, at a club that had masterfully nurtured Liverpool prodigy, Harvey Elliott, last season.
In fact, Poveda was considered to be a direct replacement for Elliott for Blackburn this summer. The club did also bring in Reda Khadra from Brighton reserves while Tyrhys Dolan was an existing option in the squad.
So far this season, Poveda has featured in only two matches for Blackburn Rovers, missing two games since joining the Championship outfit at the end of last month. He did register an assist during his debut against Middlesbrough but missed the games against Luton and Hull City before starting once again, in the recent draw with Barnsley.
It is too early to judge whether the young Englishman will be a success at Blackburn but given the club’s lack of depth in the wide-attacking department, he will certainly have an opportunity to make his presence felt.
Does He Have Any Future At Leeds United?
Ian Poveda’s loan move clearly doesn’t bode well for his future at Leeds United, as rightly pointed out by David Norris. However, the club hasn’t had much success this season with their wide forwards, as Raphinha has been the only reliable option in the frontline.
Jack Harrison has started the season slowly while both Tyler Roberts and new signing Daniel James are yet to hit the ground running. The club had also sanctioned the loan move for Helder Costa to Valencia and it appears unlikely that the Portuguese will return to Elland Road.
Such a tricky situation in the attacking department does put Poveda in contention for a future place in the side for Marcelo Bielsa. A lot will depend on how the Whites fare in the upcoming January transfer window. Not to mention, the player himself must perform well at Blackburn in order to stand a chance of being considered for the Leeds United first-team in the future.
It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the youngster over the next few years.
