In a recent interview (via The Metro), Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel confirmed that N’Golo Kante is set to be fit for the upcoming London derby against Tottenham Hotspur this weekend. Tuchel said,
‘N’Golo had two training sessions yesterday and today but the Champions League game comes a bit too early.
‘We won’t take the risk now in this moment of the season.
‘We decided to give him another load tomorrow in training then he will have a day off with all of us then he will re-join team training on Thursday, Friday and Saturday to be absolutely fit and ready for Tottenham.’
Kante’s Impressive Form At The English Capital Last Season
This recent development will be a welcome bit of news for anyone associated with the West London club as Kante has got the experience to deliver a world-class performance on big occasions like when the Blues travel to North London to face off against Spurs this weekend.
The Paris-born talent enjoyed a successful campaign at Stamford Bridge last season when he continued to excel as a key member of the Chelsea squad. The 30-year-old registered three assists and eight yellow cards in 48 matches for the West London giants in the previous campaign across all fronts.
More importantly, Kante proved himself to be a consistent performer at the heart of the Blues’ midfield as he averaged 2.6 tackles 2.0 interceptions, 0.9 clearances, 0.7 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per game in Premier League football. He even distributed the ball quite well from midfield after making 86.5% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Kante Set To Be Fit Against Tottenham: Big Boost For Tuchel?
Kante is a multi-purpose midfielder as he can do a little bit of everything at the centre of the park. He loves a tackle and has still got the hunger to chase down the opposition and win possession back for his team. The Frenchman is often quick to sense the danger and can clear his lines when his teammates are at risk of being caught out at the back. He can also pass the ball well and enjoys chipping in with a few important assists every season.
At 30, Kante has shown no signs of slowing down on the field. However, there is no denying that he has been a bit injury-prone in recent seasons. Therefore, Tuchel would hope that the French sensation can show a clean bill of health and be a top performer for Chelsea over the next 12 months.
Having Kante back for the Tottenham game will undoubtedly be a massive boost for the Blues and their chances of securing a positive result in the London derby this weekend. He remains an irreplaceable member of Tuchel’s dressing room and could play a major role for Chelsea when they visit the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.
