In a recent report, The Daily Express mentioned that Chelsea are showing interest in Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane but could face competition from Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur in pursuit of him. It is believed that the Blues are considering giving up any one of Callum Hudson-Odoi, Hakim Ziyech, or Christian Pulisic to bring the German international back to England.
Sane’s Decent Numbers At Bavaria Last Season
Sane had an impressive campaign at the Allianz Arena recently after he put in a series of eye-catching displays as a key member of Bayern Munich’s attack. The Essen-born wing wizard registered ten goals and 12 assists in 44 matches for the German giants last season across all fronts.
The 25-year-old proved his worth as a capable wide player as he averaged 1.8 shots, 1.0 key passes and 1.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. He even distributed the ball relatively well based on his pass success rate of 78.3% in top-flight football last season (stats via whoscored).
However, Sane also missed a few key matches for Bayern due to injury which has raised some concerns over his long-term health as a footballer. Still, a player of the German’s quality will be a massive coup for a top club like Chelsea as he could help them challenge for the Premier League title once again in the coming seasons.
What Will Sane Bring To Stamford Bridge?
Sane is one of the quickest players in the Bundesliga and can turn on the afterburners to easily get past his marker out on the wide areas. He can be an unstoppable force when he is dribbling at full swing in the opposition half. Sane is primarily a right-sided wide player who can also function on the left flank or play as an attacking midfielder down the middle.
The 35-time German international can cause all sorts of problems for the opposition defenders and usually chips in with his fair share of goals and assists as well in the final third. However, as mentioned earlier, injuries have often hampered his progress over the past few years, so only time will tell whether Sane would be fit enough to be a success story at Stamford Bridge if Thomas Tuchel can snap him up in January or at the end of this campaign.
The Bayern Munich star will undoubtedly bring a lot of pace and goals to Tuchel’s frontline. Despite his poor injury history, the pros outweigh the cons of recruiting Sane which is why the Chelsea manager would be wise to engineer a move to lure him to West London in the future.
