Chelsea clashed heads with Juventus at the Allianz Stadium earlier tonight as they focussed on collecting maximum points on their travels. The Blues dominated the game in the first half but struggled to get their noses ahead as they went into the half-time interval all level on the scoreline.
Juve made a dream start to the second half as Federico Chiesa scored in the 46th minute. However, Thomas Tuchel’s men failed to come up with a response as they lost the match by a narrow 1-0 scoreline away at Turin.
Let’s take a look at how each Chelsea player fared during the clash against Juventus.
GK: Edouard Mendy – 5.5/10
Mendy didn’t have a save to make in the game but couldn’t do much about Chiesa’s goal. He will be bitterly disheartened after conceding such an early goal in the second half.
CB: Andreas Christensen – 6.5/10
Christensen kept a good defensive shape at the back and was lively on the ball.
CB: Thiago Silva – 6.5/10
The Brazilian defender made a couple of important contributions on the defensive end of the field and was a threat at the other end as well.
CB: Antonio Rudiger – 6/10
He got stuck in with a couple of tackles and was tidy with his passing. However, he won’t be pleased after allowing a goal in the second half.
LM: Marcos Alonso – 6/10
Alonso created two good chances in the final third but got replaced at half-time.
CM: Jorginho – 6/10
Jorginho passed the ball with conviction but failed to influence the game in the Juve half.
CM: Mateo Kovacic – 7/10
He added a lot of bite and steel to the Chelsea midfield which helped them dominate possession during the game. However, his contributions were not enough for the Blues to get anything out of this game.
RM: Cesar Azpilicueta – 6/10
The Spanish veteran looked a bit off the pace and got substituted after the hour mark.
RAM: Kai Havertz – 5/10
The German playmaker couldn’t make a meaningful contribution throughout the game and was wasteful in front of the Juventus goal.
LAM: Hakim Ziyech – 5/10
Ziyech produced a poor attacking display tonight. He got subbed in the 61st minute.
ST: Romelu Lukaku – 6/10
The Belgian striker was Tuchel’s best hope for a goal. However, Lukaku failed to take any of his chances during the 90 minutes.
Substitutes:
LM: Ben Chilwell – 7/10
Chilwell created some decent chances for his teammates to score.
RM: Callum Hudson-Odoi – 6/10
He had a couple of bright moments in the opposition half.
CAM: Ruben Loftus-Cheek – 6/10
Loftus-Cheek didn’t do enough to get himself a goal.
CB: Trevoh Chalobah – 6.5/10
He kept a good shape inside his half.
CM: Ross Barkley – 6/10
Barkley added some energy to Tuchel’s midfield.
