In a recent interview with Football Insider, former Arsenal player Kevin Campbell tipped Daniel James to be an ideal signing for Leeds United following his deadline day arrival from Manchester United recently. Campbell said,
“You always have to convince a player who is playing for Manchester United and playing games.
“Man United have so many good players there. They are waiting for Jadon Sancho to get fully fit to so James’ minutes will be restricted.
“At the end of the day, nothing beats playing football. Leeds were interested when he was at Swansea.
“It’s funny how he ends up there now, I think he’ll be a brilliant signing.
“The way Leeds play will suit him. He’s perfect for Leeds. On the counterattack he’s got jet pace hasn’t he?
“It’s going to be an interesting one but who does he come in for?”
James’ Up And Down Season At Old Trafford Recently
James struggled to get a regular run of games for the Red Devils last season but still managed to catch the eye by putting in some impressive displays for them in English football. The Wales international registered five goals and two assists in 26 matches for the Mancunian outfit in the previous campaign across multiple competitions.
The 23-year-old could only manage to average 1.1 shots, 0.7 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per game in the Premier League. Still, he deserves credit for being tidy with his ball distribution after completing 81.3% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
What Will James Add To Marcelo Bielsa’s Team?
James is blessed with electric pace which he can effectively use to get to the byline and cause a lot of headaches for the opposition defenders. He can be a hard man to catch in a 1v1 foot chase and has got the vision to engineer a few decent opportunities for his teammates to score in the final third.
The 24-time Wales international can even chip in by netting some crucial goals for his team when he is playing regularly on the field. Hence, we can expect him to add a lot of goals and assists to Marcelo Bielsa’s frontline after this international break. James is undoubtedly good enough to compete with Raphinha, Jack Harrison and Helder Costa for a regular place on the flanks at Elland Road this season.
Therefore, Campbell might be right with his assessment of James’ recent move to Leeds as the player is a star in the making and could prove to be a great signing for the West Yorkshire outfit in the long run.
