In a recent report, Mundo Deportivo revealed that Barcelona are eyeing a move for Red Bull Leipzig playmaker Dani Olmo next summer. It is understood that the Catalan giants are hoping to re-sign the Spanish attacking midfielder at the end of this campaign.
Olmo’s Impressive Form At Red Bull Arena Last Season
Olmo enjoyed a decent campaign with the German outfit last season after he produced several eye-catching displays as the chief playmaker of Leipzig’s attack. The 23-year-old participated in 46 matches for his current employers last season, netting seven goals and securing 12 assists in various competitions.
The Terrassa-born talent caught the eye by averaging 2.4 shots, 1.3 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball in the final third after making 77.6% of his attempted passes in the German first division (stats via whoscored).
Olmo is a technically gifted footballer who is a product of Barca’s La Masia academy. Hence, it makes sense for the Catalan outfit to try and bring him back to Spain at the end of this season as he will undeniably bolster their attacking options at the Nou Camp.
Is Olmo A Good Signing For The Catalans?
Olmo is a moderately-paced attacker who can complete some impressive dribbles in the final third. He can be a hard man to stop when he is running with the ball at full swing. The Spaniard has added plenty of goals and assists to his game. He is currently amongst the best playmakers in German football, so Barca should think about re-signing him in the future.
We can expect Olmo to add a lot of firepower to Ronald Koeman’s attack. He is good enough to offer some serious competition for Pedri and Frenkie de Jong for a regular starting spot at the Nou Camp. At 23, Olmo is in for a very bright future in European football as long as he continues to get better with each season.
Koeman can definitely use someone of the Leipzig attacker’s skillset to improve his match-day squad in the upcoming campaign. With all things considered, Olmo will be a good signing for Barca to pursue during the next summer transfer window as he could help them challenge for some major trophies over the next few years.
