In a recent report, The Daily Express revealed that West Ham United are weighing up a final offer for Manchester United playmaker Jesse Lingard with the transfer deadline fast approaching. It is understood that the Red Devils have dropped their asking price for the English talent to just £20m with the player also keen on re-joining the Hammers this summer.
Lingard’s Excellent Loan Spell At The London Stadium Last Season
Lingard recently enjoyed a fruitful six-month loan spell at West Ham as he caught the eye by producing some mesmerizing displays for them in the second half of last season. The 28-year-old participated in 16 matches for the East London club in the previous campaign, scoring nine goals and providing five assists in multiple competitions.
The English sensation did well to average 2.6 shots, 1.1 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in the last Premier League season. He also took care of the ball well when distributing possession in the opponent’s half after making 83.6% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
Lingard has only got a year left to run in his Man United contract, so it is no surprise that the Red Devils are willing to lower their demands which could open the door for the Hammers to acquire the player’s services before the end of this month.
West Ham Planning To Make Final Bid For Lingard: Wise Move For Moyes?
Lingard showed just what he is capable of during his loan stay with the Hammers last season. When he is playing regularly on the field, he can be a good goal-getter in the final third and is also quite versatile as he loves to play in the number ten position but can also operate as a wide player on the flanks if needed.
The English playmaker can complete a few dangerous dribbles with the ball in the opposition half and has got the vision to set up a handful of inviting chances for his teammates up top. He does not give away the ball cheaply that makes him such a good fit for Moyes’ style of play at East London.
Hence, West Ham would be wise to try everything in their power to get a deal done for Lingard in this summer transfer window. At 28, the Man United talent is still enjoying the prime years of his playing career, so we can expect him to make an immediate impact at the London Stadium if Moyes can get him on board this month. Lingard will undeniably add a lot of quality to West Ham’s frontline and could help them challenge for a top-six finish in the Premier League this season.
