In a recent report, La Repubblica (subscription required) revealed that West Ham United are set to rival Inter Milan for Cagliari winger Nahitan Nandez this month. It is believed that the Hammers are hoping to strengthen their squad before the transfer deadline and could turn their attention to the Uruguay international.
Nandez’s Decent Season At Sardegna Arena
Nandez had a solid campaign in Italian football in the previous campaign after he put in some impressive displays down the right side of Cagliari’s midfield. The 25-year-old registered two goals and three assists in 34 matches for the Italian outfit last season in multiple competitions.
The Punta del Este-born talent deserves credit for averaging 1.8 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 1.5 clearances, 1.0 shots, 1.0 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per game in the 2020-21 Serie A campaign. He even distributed the ball with accuracy as he completed 77.7% of his attempted passes in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
Nandez’s current deal at Cagliari runs out in the summer of 2024, so the Hammers will have to make a good offer if they want to lure him to the London Stadium before the end of this transfer window. They might have the financial power to even outbid Inter Milan if Moyes opts to step up his pursuit for the player.
What Will The Uruguay International Add To David Moyes’ Team?
Nandez is a quick and agile wide player who can make some strong tackles to make life difficult for the opposition down the right flank. He is a good passer of the ball and has got a great work rate that makes him such an important member of Cagliari’s squad.
The 41-time Uruguay international is a composed presence when in possession of the ball and can chip in by scoring and creating a few good goals for his team. However, Nandez has to be more decisive in the final third if he wants to improve his productivity up top.
Joining the Hammers this summer would be a good move for the player at this stage of his playing career. West Ham can also benefit from acquiring someone of Nandez’s skill set as he will undoubtedly increase competition for places within Moyes’ match-day squad.
At 25, the South American workhorse is about to enter his prime, so the East London giants can make the most out of his talents if they can acquire his services before the end of this month. He will add more energy and dynamism to Moyes’ first-team squad that should make him a good choice for West Ham this summer.
