In a recent report, The Daily Star mentioned that West Ham United remain interested in recruiting Manchester United playmaker Jesse Lingard before the transfer deadline on Tuesday. It is understood that the English attacker is still on the Hammers’ radar with just a few days left to run in this summer transfer window.
Lingard’s Impressive Numbers For West Ham Last Season
Lingard caught the eye during his six-month loan spell at the London Stadium in the second half of last season. The English sensation participated in 16 matches for the Hammers in the previous campaign, registering nine goals and five assists in the process across multiple competitions.
The England international played some of his best football at the East London club as he averaged 2.6 shots, 1.1 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per game in the 2020-21 Premier League campaign. He also took care of the ball when distributing possession in the opponent’s half after making 83.6% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Lingard is currently playing at his prime and would be a guaranteed starter for West Ham if David Moyes can find a way to bring him back to the English capital before the transfer window slams shut at the end of this month.
Is Lingard A Good Option For The Hammers?
Lingard enjoyed playing as an attacking midfielder in Moyes’ first-team last season but is also versatile enough to fill in as a winger on either flank if needed. The 29-time England international is an exciting dribbler with the ball at his feet and can be a hard man to dispossession when he is playing well in the final third.
The Man United talent chipped in with his fair share of goals and assists at the London Stadium last season. Hence, there is no reason why he won’t make a similar impact if West Ham manage to acquire his services this month. Lingard would enjoy competing with the likes of Said Benrahma, Jarrod Bowen and Pablo Fornals as he has already developed a good partnership with them during his loan spell earlier this year.
At 28, Lingard has still got plenty of years left in him to play at top gear. Therefore, he will be a great option for the Hammers to consider this summer. We can expect the English attacker to add a lot of goals and creativity to Moyes’ frontline and take some of the attacking workload off Michail Antonio’s shoulders in the coming seasons.
