In a recent report, Corriere Dello Sport mentioned that West Ham United have enquired about Villarreal full-back Pervis Estupiñán this summer. It has been revealed that the Hammers are showing interest in recruiting the Ecuadorian defender in this summer transfer window (via Corriere Dello Sport).
Estupiñán’s Impressive Campaign In Spanish Football
The 23-year-old had a solid season with the Yellow Submarine as he put in some impressive displays on the left side of their backline. Estupiñán took part in 33 matches for the Spanish side in the previous campaign, picking up two assists and one yellow card in multiple competitions.
The Esmeraldas-born talent did well to average 1.5 tackles, 1.4 interceptions, 0.5 clearances and 0.7 key passes per 90 minutes in La Liga. He even distributed the ball relatively well going forward, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 80.5% in the Spanish top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Estupiñán’s current contract with Villarreal is set to expire in the summer of 2027, so the Spanish club will be under no immediate pressure to sell him which could make it difficult for the Hammers to lure him to the London Stadium in this off-season.
What Will The Villarreal Left-Back Add To David Moyes’ Team?
Estupiñán is a quick and agile full-back who can time his tackles well to secure the ball back for his team. He has good defensive awareness and usually clears the danger when needed. The South American sensation can also create a few decent opportunities for his teammates in the opponent’s half. However, he needs to add a few more goals and assists to his game if he intends to become a world-class player in his position someday.
West Ham can benefit from adding more competition for Aaron Cresswell and Arthur Masuaku this summer. Therefore, Estupiñán fits the bill perfectly as he has what it takes to fight for a regular starting place at the London Stadium in the coming seasons. He will enhance the quality of the East London club’s squad and could go on to become a star for them in the future.
At 23, the best is yet to come from Estupiñán, so Moyes can expect to make the most out of Estupiñán’s talents if he can get him on board before the transfer window slams shut at the end of this month. Thus, the Hammers should consider stepping up their pursuit to acquire the services of the Ecuador international as he could help them push for a top-six finish in the Premier League next season.
