Kounde’s Impressive Form In Spanish Football Last Season
The Paris-born prospect had a solid season at Seville as he put in a run of dominant displays at the centre of Julen Lopetegui’s defence. The two-time France international participated in 49 matches for the Spanish outfit in the previous campaign, finding the back of the net on four occasions and grabbing one assist across all competitions.
Kounde was a reliable presence on the defensive end of the pitch after he averaged 0.8 tackles, 1.2 interceptions, 2.9 clearances, 0.6 shots and 0.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga last season. He even took care of the ball well when distributing possession from the back based on his pass success rate of 90.1% in the Spanish first division (stats via whoscored).
The 22-year-old is currently amongst the most promising young defenders in European football. Therefore, the Blues would do well to get him on board before the transfer window closes on August 31st with Thomas Tuchel serving as the perfect man to oversee the talented centre-back’s development at Stamford Bridge over the next few years.
Is Kounde The Right Choice For The Blues?
Kounde is often quick to react to the danger and can put his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot. He is a decent tackler and can make some important interceptions inside his half. The French sensation is also a composed presence when in possession of the ball and loves to play his way out from the back which makes him a good fit for Tuchel’s playing style at the West London club.
Kounde ticks all the right boxes in terms of what is required to succeed in English football. Hence, Chelsea should consider going all out in pursuit of his services before the end of this transfer window. The Frenchman could serve as an upgrade over Kurt Zouma and would offer some healthy competition for Andreas Christensen, Thiago Silva, Antonio Rudiger and Cesar Azpilicueta for a place in Tuchel’s starting XI.
With all things considered, Kounde would be an excellent choice for the Blues to sign this month as he will enhance the quality of their squad considerably for the coming years. At 22, the Sevilla star has the ceiling to become a top talent as long as he continues to work hard on the training field.
