Manchester United will lock horns with Leeds United at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon, hoping to kick-start their season with all three points. The Red Devils will be coming into the match on the back of a thumping 4-0 win over Everton, whereas Marcelo Bielsa’s men recorded a 2-2 draw against Villarreal on August 7.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will probably opt for the 4-2-3-1 formation for the opening game of the campaign.
4-2-3-1 Manchester United Predicted Lineup Vs Leeds United
Defence
David de Gea is expected to start in goal for the upcoming clash. The Spanish shot-stopper would be looking to put up a strong performance and secure a clean sheet on Saturday.
Dean Henderson is still recovering from the after-effects of coronavirus.
Victor Lindelof will form the centre-half partnership with skipper Harry Maguire at the heart of United’s backline.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka is a guaranteed starter at the right-back position, whereas Luke Shaw will fill in on the other flank as the left-back. The English duo would be expected to stay compact and keep their shape defensively.
Midfield
Paul Pogba is expected to start in the central midfield position, whereas Fred will slot in as the defensive midfielder.
Bruno Fernandes remains a sure-fire starter for United this week, and it’ll be an understatement to say The Red Devils will be highly dependent on the Portugal international’s creative work if they wish to pick up a win on Saturday.
Mason Greenwood and Jadon Sancho will take up the wide positions, playing on the right and left-wing, respectively.
Daniel James might have to settle for a place on the bench, but he could be brought on in the latter stages of the match if needed.
Attack
Anthony Martial is expected to lead the line for the hosts against Leeds United. The Frenchman had an abysmal 2020/21 season in all aspects, so he would definitely be looking forward to finding the back of the net this weekend.
Veteran striker Edinson Cavani might not be involved at all.
