Manchester United will lock horns with Southampton at St. Mary’s on Sunday afternoon, hoping to pick up all three points in the second game of the campaign. The Saints will be coming into the match on the back of a pathetic 3-1 loss to Everton, whereas Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men recorded a thumping 5-1 win against Leeds United last week.
Ralph Hasenhuttl will probably opt for the 4-4-2 formation with a couple of tweaks from the last game as Nathan Redmond looks likely to get the nod over Oriel Romeu.
4-4-2 Predicted Southampton Lineup Vs Manchester United
Defence
Alex McCarthy is expected to start in goal for the upcoming clash. The English shot-stopper would be looking to put up a strong performance and secure a clean sheet on Sunday.
Mohammed Salisu will form the centre-half partnership with Jack Stephens at the heart of Southampton’s backline.
Romain Perraud is a guaranteed starter at the left-back position, whereas Valentino Livramento will fill in on the other flank as the right-back. The duo would be expected to stay compact and keep their shape defensively.
Midfield
Nathan Redmond is expected to replace Oriel Romeu and partner James Ward-Prowse at the centre of the park. The duo would be looking to dominate the midfield proceedings on Sunday.
Moussa Djenepo and Theo Walcott will take up the wide positions, playing on the left and right-wing respectively.
Nathan Tella will have to settle for a place on the bench, but he could be brought on in the latter stages of the game if needed.
Attack
Adam Armstrong and Charlie Adams will form the striking partnership upfront. The pair would hope to find the back of the net when they face off against the United defence this weekend.
Mohamed Elyounoussi could come on to make a cameo appearance in the second half of the match.
