In a recent report, Eurosport stated that Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic is on West Ham United’s radar this summer. It is believed that the Serbian striker is not a part of Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti’s plans for the new campaign with the Hammers hoping to recruit him during this summer transfer window (via Eurosport).
Jovic’s Underwhelming Loan Spell At Frankfurt Last Season
Jovic had an underwhelming loan spell at Eintracht Frankfurt last season as he struggled to find consistency in terms of his goal-scoring in the final third. The 23-year-old registered four goals and two assists in 18 league matches for the Frankfurt outfit in the previous campaign.
Most of the Bijeljina-born talent’s game time came as a substitute which could be why he averaged 1.4 shots, 0.3 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in the Bundesliga. However, he distributed possession relatively well in the attacking third of the pitch, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 78.6% in the German top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Jovic needs to seal a permanent move away from the Spanish capital if he wants to get his career back on track. He is clearly not good enough to compete with Karim Benzema for a regular starting spot in Carlo Ancelotti’s starting XI, so it is only logical for the player to make a switch elsewhere in search of more game time over the next few years.
Should Los Blancos Let Jovic Go This Summer?
Jovic is a moderately paced forward who can pull off a few intelligent runs with the ball in the opposition half. He can be a composed finisher in the final third when he is playing with confidence on the pitch.
The 14-time Serbia international has a knack for finding a yard of space to get a few shots in at goal. However, he needs to work on improving his offensive productivity if he intends to become a world-class striker someday.
Jovic is currently surplus to requirements at Real Madrid, so Ancelotti should think about letting him go if he receives a fair offer from West Ham United or any of the player’s other potential suitors this summer. At 23, the Serbian sensation still has plenty of time to rediscover himself at the highest level.
However, Jovic is not ready to succeed at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium next season. Therefore, he should welcome a change of scenery while Los Blancos can hope to use the money generated from his potential sale to strengthen other areas of their squad.
