Real Madrid locked horns with Real Betis at the Benito Villamarín Stadium earlier tonight as they hoped to pick up a positive result on the road. Both sides put up a good fight in the first half but couldn’t make the decisive breakthrough as they went into the half-time break with a goalless scoreline.
Los Blancos finally got their noses ahead in the 61st minute when Dani Carvajal scored with a brilliant sliding volley. Carlo Ancelotti’s men defended their lead valiantly and secured a narrow 1-0 win away at Andalusia.
Let’s take a look at how each Real Madrid player fared during the clash against Real Betis.
GK: Thibaut Courtois – 8/10
The Belgian keeper made several important saves during the game and did well to keep his clean sheet intact.
RB: Dani Carvajal – 8.5/10
Carvajal was defensively solid and scored the only goal of the game with a great volley just after the hour mark.
CB: Eder Militao – 7.5/10
He did what was asked of him on the defensive end of the field and performed well enough to secure the clean sheet.
CB: David Alaba – 7/10
The former Bayern Munich defender made a few crucial interceptions at the back and cleared his lines when needed.
LB: Miguel Gutiérrez – 8/10
Gutierrez got stuck in with multiple tackles and was superb when defending inside his half. He was also a real threat going forward during his time on the pitch.
CM: Federico Valverde – 6.5/10
He anchored the midfield well for Los Blancos but didn’t have too much joy in the Betis half.
CM: Casemiro – 7.5/10
The Brazilian sensation made life difficult for the opposition at the centre of the park and even pulled off a few exciting runs with the ball from midfield.
CM: Isco – 7/10
The Spaniard had a few lively moments in the final third but didn’t do enough to get himself a goal.
RW: Gareth Bale – 6.5/10
Bale showed some flashes of his brilliance but produced a toothless display in the attacking end of the field.
ST: Karim Benzema – 7.5/10
Even though there was no goal for the Frenchman tonight, he did well to set up Carvajal’s match-winner in the second half.
LW: Vinicius Junior – 7.5/10
His pace caused all kinds of headaches for the Betis defenders. However, he was lacklustre in the final third.
Substitutes:
RW: Lucas Vazquez – 6/10
Vazquez added some energy to Real Madrid’s attack.
CM: Marco Asensio – 6.5/10
The Spanish playmaker made a couple of exciting runs going forward.
