In a recent report, Goal.com mentioned that Newcastle United are set to step up their pursuit of Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey this summer. It is understood that the Magpies have enquired about the Welsh midfield ace’s availability at Turin ahead of a potential move in this off-season (via Goal.com).
Ramsey’s Up And Down Season In Italian Football
The Welsh playmaker had a campaign of mixed emotions at the Allianz Stadium as he struggled to find consistency but did manage to put in a few influential performances at the heart of the Juve midfield. Ramsey appeared in 30 matches for the Italian giants last season, finding the back of the net twice and securing five assists in all competitions.
The 30-year-old deserves credit for averaging 1.1 shots, 1.4 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in the 2020-21 Serie A campaign. He was also excellent with his ball distribution from midfield after completing 87.1% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Italian football (stats via whoscored).
Ramsey has still got two years remaining in his Juventus contract. However, he was quite injury-prone last season, so the player can benefit from sealing a move back to England to play for a club like Newcastle next season.
Will Ramsey Be A Good Option For The Magpies?
Ramsey is a moderately-paced midfielder who can make some clever sprints with the ball in the opponent’s half. He can create some decent openings for others around him and excels at striking the ball with power from long range. The Caerphilly-born talent is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also play as a winger on either flank or as an attacking midfielder if needed.
The Wales international can retain possession for his team quite well but needs to be more productive with his contributions in the attacking third of the pitch. There is no doubt that the Magpies can use a player of his skill set and experience as he would inject some much-needed quality to their midfield.
Ramsey will add more creativity and goals to Newcastle’s squad and is still good enough to secure a regular starting place at St. James’ Park next season. Hence, the ex-Arsenal midfielder could prove to be a good option for the Tyneside outfit to consider during this summer transfer window.
At 30, Ramsey still has a few good years left in his tank to play a vital role for Newcastle in the coming seasons. Furthermore, a player of his winning mindset could also help the Magpies challenge for a major trophy over the next few years.
