Rangers are far from their best so far this campaign, but they still managed to grind out a midweek Europa League playoff win against FC Alashkert with a man down for the majority of the contest. They travelled to Victoria Park this afternoon to lock horns with Ross County and managed to grab a 4-2 win despite being a shadow of their earlier self in the heart of the backline.
Below are the Rangers players rated in their edgy win against Ross County.
Allan McGregor: 7
Made a couple of great saves to avoid another setback on the road. A lapse down the right led to Harry Clarke’s goal that brought the Staggies back in the game minutes before half-time. Jumped in the right way but was beaten by Jordan White’s power from the spot during the final quarter of the fixture.
James Tavernier: 6
Lazy defending from the skipper as he should have done a lot better to stop the hosts from finding the net. His corner was headed home by Goldson and the usual overlapping runs, cut insides, crosses and link-up play helped Rangers maintain supremacy in the attacking third.
Connor Goldson: 7
A constant threat from set-pieces as he not only scored one but also forced Ross Laidlaw to make a couple of crucial saves in the first half. But his defending has been below par as the Englishman must take the blame for allowing Clarke to hammer past McGregor.
Leon Balogun: 6.5
Did the basics right but the composure at the back was missing all throughout. His passing game should have been better while playing it out from the back.
Calvin Bassey: 6.5
An unfortunate handball resulted in White’s goal from the spot. Restricted the attacking game to offer his presence at the back. Looked more effective in previous outings in terms of resilience and confidence.
Steven Davis: 7.5
Dominated the midfield game with his expertise and experience. His distribution, pressing and holding game allowed the Gers to keep things calm at the centre of the pitch.
Glen Kamara: 7.5
His trademark runs and technical traits made things tricky for Ross County in their own half. Set it up for Morelos to make it 3-1 and controlled the tempo from the middle of the park before making way for John Lundstram.
Joe Aribo: 8
Scored spectacularly to break the deadlock and his work rate, one-twos and link-up football caused menace in the Staggies defence. Was withdrawn in the closing minutes to be replaced by Kemar Roofe.
Ianis Hagi: 6.5
Had his moments down the right-hand flank, tested the keeper between the sticks but faded off with time. Made way for Scott Arfield late in the match.
Ryan Kent: 6.5
Far from his best as the former Liverpool prodigy failed to threaten the home side except for a couple of goal-bound chances. Needs to step up his game before the Old Firm derby.
Alfredo Morelos: 8.5
The saviour yet again as he not only set it up for Aribo in early minutes but also found the net to make it 3-1 around the 56th-minute mark. Was a constant threat with his movements, one-twos and shooting attributes. Played his part in Arfield’s goal that ensured all three points from this nervy outing.
Rangers Substitutes Vs Ross County
John Lundstram: 7
Did extremely well to win the ball in midfield and instigate a counter-attack for Arfield’s insurance goal.
Scott Arfield: 7
Was in the right place at the right time to fire in and make it 4-2 with six minutes remaining.
Kemar Roofe: NA
Played too little to warrant a rating.
