In a recent report, The Sun stated that Fiorentina centre-back Nikola Milenkovic is keen on a move to West Ham United this summer. It is understood that the Hammers are eyeing a move to bring the Serbian defensive ace to the London Stadium during this summer transfer window (via The Sun).
Milenkovic’s Encouraging Season At the Stadio Artemio Franchi
Milenkovic had a solid campaign at the Florence-based club as he managed to produce a run of impressive displays at the heart of their backline. The Belgrad-born sensation participated in 37 matches for the Italian outfit last season, scoring three goals and providing one assist in all competitions.
The 23-year-old was a consistent performer for Fiorentina on the defensive end of the field after he averaged 1.4 tackles, 1.3 interceptions and 3.6 clearances per game in the previous Serie A campaign. He was even excellent when distributing possession from the back based on his pass success rate of 86% in the Italian top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Milenkovic has successfully established himself as a decent centre-half in Serie A football. Thus, it makes sense for the Hammers to orchestrate a move to secure his signature before the end of this month as he will add a lot of quality to David Moyes’ defence ahead of the new campaign.
Should The Hammers Get Milenkovic On Board This Summer?
Milenkovic has proven himself to be a capable defender at the back as he usually clears his lines when needed and can time his tackles well to secure possession back for his team. The Serbian defensive ace enjoys playing his way out from the back, so he will fit into David Moyes’ playing style quite well at the English capital if West Ham manage to capture his services this summer.
The talented centre-back has already got a lot of experience of playing at the top level. Hence, we can expect him to become a regular starter at the London Stadium in the coming seasons. There is no doubt that Milenkovic will enhance the quality of the Hammers backline and could go on to form a dominant defensive partnership with Angelo Ogbonna at East London over the next few years.
The Fiorentina star is primarily a central defender but can also feature as a right-back if needed. His versatility and defensive prowess make him a decent option for the London outfit to consider in this off-season. At 23, the Serbian still has a lot of room to grow as a footballer, so he will be a good signing for Moyes’ team in the long run. Therefore, West Ham would be wise to get Milenkovic on board before the new Premier League campaign kicks off later this month.
