Recent reports from The Guardian suggest that Leeds United are keen on signing Manchester United winger Daniel James on a permanent deal in the ongoing transfer window as Marcelo Bielsa looks set to add to his attacking options.
‘Leeds are in advanced talks over a move for Daniel James from Manchester United on a permanent deal more than two years after they almost signed him on loan.’ – The report stated.
The Welshman has three years left on his present contract at Old Trafford, so United are expected to demand a fee in the region of £20m to let go of his services, nearly £5m more than what they had paid to sign him from Swansea City in 2019.
A Good Move For All The Parties Involved?
It would be an understatement to say that Daniel James has failed to live up to the expectations at Manchester United following his arrival from Swansea a couple of years back.
The 23-year-old attacker made just eleven starts in the Premier League last season, and now, with the arrival of stars like Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo, it’s quite obvious that his opportunities will be further limited this term.
Furthermore, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to trim the squad now that 19-year-old Amad Diallo is set to remain at United at least until the next transfer window begins.
‘Manchester United can confirm that Amad has sustained a thigh muscle injury in training and is likely to be out for six weeks.’ – said a statement on Manchester United’s official website.
‘Unfortunately, this happened just before his planned loan move to Feyenoord.
Amad will remain at United and rehabilitate back to full fitness.’
For a game-plan that demands tremendous levels of fitness and work-rate from the players, Daniel James might as well turn out to be the perfect fit for Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United.
With attributes like pace and agility, the Kingston-born winger loves making direct runs at the opposition defenders down the right flank. However, one might argue that he has a lot of aspects to improve upon before nailing down a spot in Leeds’ starting line-up – especially his decision making ability in the final third and below-par finishing skills.
Given the circumstances, a permanent move away from Old Trafford seems to be the right move for all the parties involved.
