Recent reports from Brazilian media outlet Globo Esporte (as cited by the Daily Mail) suggest that Flamengo are quite close to signing Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira on a season-long loan deal in the ongoing transfer window, with just the final details of the move subject to completion.
‘Manchester United has already signalled positively for the release of Andreas Pereira on a one-season loan, but the conditions for the transaction to be completed are still debated.
Brazilians and English negotiate the purchase price stipulated at the end of the contract and, mainly, the division in the payment of salaries of the Belgian with Brazilian nationality.’ – The translated version of the report stated.
Manchester United are negotiating against Flamengo’s demand for equal division of wages for the player who is presently earning around £30,000 per week. Successful negotiations will ease the financial pressure on United as they need to balance out their books after two high-profile signings.
However, with the Copa do Brasil deadline for registering players next Tuesday, the club is trying to speed up the process of securing his signature.
A Good Move For All The Parties Involved?
Pereira spent the second half of the 2020/21 season on loan at Lazio, making 33 appearances across all competitions, but he managed to start on just five occasions out of them.
In an interview with TNT Sports last month, he revealed his intentions of securing regular game time irrespective of the club he is playing for, “I’m ready to play, I’m not a boy anymore. I’m a man ready to take responsibility,” he said.
“I’m sure that with playing time and continuity as a starter in my position, I can show what I’ve done on base, I can score more goals and give assists.
A player of my position needs the confidence to play and the freedom to be bold on the field.
In Manchester or elsewhere, the time has come to play, to have at least an hour per game on the field, to have the confidence to play.
I want to be happy, to feel important.”
Given the presence of some world-class midfielders at United, it’s highly unlikely that he’ll be getting regular minutes at Old Trafford, so a move away seems to be the best for his career at the moment.
Away from Europe, the Brazilian international will be free from the media pressure, and a series of impressive performances might get him into Tite’s plans for the World Cup 2022.
If the deal materialises, this will be Pereira’s fourth spell in the last five years as he has completed loans at Granada and Valencia as well.
