In a recent report, The Daily Mail revealed that Manchester City winger Bernardo Silva is hoping to seal a move to Spain this summer. It is understood that the Portuguese wide player wants to leave Man City and return to Iberia with both Atletico Madrid and Barcelona showing interest in acquiring his services (via The Daily Mail).
Silva’s Solid Form In English Football Last Season
Silva experienced another outstanding campaign at the Etihad Stadium as he managed to help the Mancunian giants secure the Premier League title. The 26-year-old featured in 45 matches for Pep Guardiola’s team last season, scoring five goals and securing nine assists on all fronts.
The Lisboa-born wing wizard was a consistent performer in the Man City squad after he averaged 1.0 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 1.1 shots, 1.0 key passes and 1.6 dribbles per 90 minutes in the English top-flight. He hardly gave away the ball when distributing it in the opponent’s half based on his pass completion rate of 91.8% in league football (stats via whoscored).
Silva is currently playing at a high level but might struggle to get regular first-team starts at Manchester next season as he will have to compete with Riyad Mahrez, Raheem Sterling, Phil Foden and Ferran Torres for a place in Guardiola’s starting XI.
Should Man City Let The Portuguese Winger Go This Summer?
Silva is a quick and energetic wide player who can make some penetrative runs with the ball in the opposition half. He has got the eye to play a decisive pass in the attacking third and can strike the ball with power and precision from long range.
The Portugal international managed to score and create some important goals for Man City last season which goes to show just how valuable a component he has become in Guardiola’s squad. Hence, Man City should think about keeping hold of him for the time being as he has been nothing short of a great servant to the Mancunian club thus far.
At 26, Silva is currently enjoying the peak years of his playing career. Therefore, we can expect him to get even better if he gets a regular run of matches over the next couple of seasons. The Portuguese sensation has also transformed himself into one of the leaders in the Man City dressing room.
Silva is still under contract at the Etihad until the summer of 2025, so Guardiola would be wise to not entertain any offers for him as he could still help the reigning Premier League champions win a few major trophies in the coming seasons.
