In a recent print edition, Corriere dello Sport (via The Daily Mail) mentioned that Manchester City have been offered a chance to land Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo this summer. It is understood that Juve are willing to sell the Portugal international for just £25m which could open the door for him to move to the Etihad Stadium as Man City are desperately looking to strengthen their attack before the transfer deadline.
Ronaldo’s Excellent Numbers For Juventus Last Season
Ronaldo had an outstanding campaign with the Turin giants recently after he put in several match-winning displays as the focal point of their attack. The Portuguese superstar banged in 36 goals and grabbed four assists in 44 matches for the Italian outfit last season on all fronts.
The 36-year-old was a consistent performer in the final third as he averaged 5.1 shots, 1.1 key passes and 1.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in the previous Serie A campaign. He was also tidy with his ball distribution based on his pass completion rate of 82.1% in league football (stats via whoscored).
At 36, Ronaldo might still have a couple of good years left in him, so he could serve as a decent, short-term signing for Man City to consider this summer, especially if they end up missing out on Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane.
Should Man City Get Ronaldo On Board This Summer?
Ronaldo remains one of the best goal-scorers in European football as he is still a lethal finisher in front of the opposition goal. He has got a wealth of experience in winning trophies at the highest level. Ronaldo often played as a centre-forward last season but can even fill in as a winger on either flank if needed.
More importantly, the 179-time Portugal international can also pick up his fair share of assists in the attacking end of the pitch. He is usually a hard man to stop when he is dribbling at full swing in and around the opponent’s penalty box.
A striker of Ronaldo’s quality will make an instant impact at the Etihad Stadium if Pep Guardiola decides to seal a move for him this summer. He is more than capable of leading the line for Man City in the Premier League week in week out.
Plus, Ronaldo could go on to form an unstoppable attacking partnership with Kevin De Bruyne at the blue half of Manchester over the next couple of seasons. Therefore, Guardiola should think about matching Juve’s £25m to get the Portuguese attacker on board before the transfer deadline on August 31st.
