Liverpool have confirmed on their official website that Andrew Robertson has penned a new long-term contract with the club. It has been revealed that the Scotland international is delighted to have committed his long-term future to the Reds this summer.
Robertson’s Impressive Numbers At Merseyside Last Season
Robertson had another solid campaign at Anfield as he was a constant presence on the left side of Jurgen Klopp’s defence. However, the 27-year-old has missed both of Liverpool’s Premier League matches this season due to injury.
The Scotland international featured in 50 matches for the Merseyside outfit in the previous campaign, netting one goal and securing seven assists in all competitions. Robertson gave a good account of himself in both halves after he averaged 1.2 tackles, 0.6 interceptions, 1.8 clearances, 0.5 shots, 1.7 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. He was even excellent when distributing the ball from the left flank, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 84.4% in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
Robertson has established himself as one of the best left-backs in European football, so Liverpool have done well to tie him down to a new contract this month. The Scotland international can help bring even more success back to Anfield over the next few years.
Robertson Pens Long-Term Contract With Liverpool: Good Move For Both Parties?
Robertson is a quick and energetic full-back who can make multiple darting runs down the left wing. He is a reliable defender at the back and hardly gets beat in a 1v1 footrace. The 48-time Scotland international can deliver a few dangerous crosses into the opposition penalty box and loves to chip in by bagging his fair share of assists in the final third. However, Robertson can benefit from adding some goals if he wants to take his game to another level.
At 27, the Scottish playmaker is currently enjoying the prime years of his playing career, so Klopp can expect him to perform at a high level over the next few seasons. Hence, the Reds have made a wise move by securing Robertson’s services for the long run.
Robertson will also enjoy playing under a manager he trusts and could get even better under his expert guidance at Anfield in the future. All in all, it seems like a good move for both the player and the Merseyside club as they look to collectively win even more trophies in the coming seasons.
