The Daily Mail has recently reported that Liverpool are among several clubs monitoring PSV Eindhoven playmaker Noni Madueke. It is understood that the Reds along with Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Leicester City are all keeping a close eye on the player’s performance for PSV on Tuesday night’s crunch UEFA Champions League encounter versus Benfica.
Madueke’s Impressive Rise In Dutch Football
Madueke has made an electric start to this campaign for the Dutch outfit as he has already produced a run of productive displays for them in the final third. The 19-year-old scored six goals and secured one assist in eight matches for PSV this season in all competitions.
The English youngster played a sporadic role at Philips Stadium last season as most of his appearances in league football came off the bench. Still, Madueke deserves a lot of credit for averaging 1.3 shots, 0.7 key passes and 1.6 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Dutch Eredivisie. He was even excellent when distributing possession in the final third, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 86.3% in the top tier of Dutch football (stats via whoscored).
Madueke has taken great strides towards improving his productivity in the attacking end of the pitch over the past year. Therefore, Liverpool will do well to engineer a move to bring him to Anfield before the end of this summer transfer period.
Is Madueke The Right Choice For The Reds?
Madueke can use his pace and agility to make some clever runs with the ball down the right flank. He has begun to add some goals to his game but needs to figure out a way to be more creative in the opposition half. The English prospect is in for a very bright future in English football, so the Reds should prioritize on securing his services during this summer transfer window.
At 19, Madueke is still quite raw, so Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp could develop him into a top talent in the years to come. Plus, he is definitely a player that fits into Liverpool’s transfer policy of buying young players and turning them into future starters at Anfield.
The recent rise of Harvey Elliott should serve as proof that an up-and-coming prospect like Madueke could play a prominent role in Klopp’s first-team if he can prove his worth on the training field. He will undoubtedly act as decent cover for Mohamed Salah and would add more competition for Harvey Elliott which makes him a good choice for the Merseyside club to pursue this month. Furthermore, Madueke could prove to be a good replacement for Xherdan Shaqiri who joined Olympique Lyonnais recently.
