According to the latest odds released by Sky Bet (via Leicestershire Live), Leicester City are the favorites to land Schalke 04 defender Ozan Kabak this summer. The United Kingdom bookmakers, Sky Bet have priced the Foxes at 11/8 to secure the services of the Turkey international in this off-season (via Leicestershire Live).
Kabak’s Unimpressive Loan Spell At Merseyside Last Season
Kabak had an uneventful six-month loan spell at Liverpool last season and did not impress enough to earn a permanent move to Anfield. The 21-year-old featured in 13 matches for the Reds in the previous campaign, receiving four yellow cards in various competitions.
Still, the Turkish defensive ace deserves some credit for averaging 2.1 tackles, 1.3 interceptions and 3.0 clearances per game in Premier League football. He even distributed the ball with accuracy after completing 88.7% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Kabak is still quite young and would need time before he can excel at the highest level every week. Sealing a move to Leicester could be an ideal move for the Ankara-born defensive ace at this stage of his playing career as he will get a chance to work with a great man-manager like Brendan Rodgers who could unlock the best out of him in the coming seasons.
Is Kabak The Right Choice For The Foxes This Summer?
Kabak is slowly but surely developing into a decent defender at the back. He is not shy of getting stuck in with a few tackles to hamper the opposition’s flow in the game. The Turkish youngster doesn’t take too many risks when clearing his lines at the back.
However, Kabak can be a bit slow to react to the danger at times and is often in danger of getting caught out when the opposition are looking to run in behind him. Still, he is a tidy passer of the ball and could enjoy playing in Rodgers’ style of possession-based football at the King Power Stadium.
At 21, Kabak has the potential to be a future star in English football that makes him a decent choice for the Foxes to pursue this summer. He will add some bite and steel to the East Midlands club’s backline and could help them challenge for a top-four place in the Premier League next season.
