According to Transfer Market Web, Leeds United have resumed their pursuit of Nahitan Nandez. The Cagliari midfielder was one of the club’s top targets in the early summer but was expected to join Inter Milan. However, it appears the negotiations with the Nerazzurri have stalled, resulting in Leeds United to once again set their sights on Nandez. They have already contacted the player’s agent and a move to Premier League could be on the horizon.
What Does Nahitan Nandez Bring To The Table?
Nahitan Nandez has made a name for himself in Serie A since joining the club in 2019. He has become one of Cagliari’s key players, mustering over 70 competitive appearances in just two years, scoring four goals and supplying seven more.
A midfielder by trade, Nandez is a versatile player who can operate either centrally or out wide. He has mostly played in a wide role for Cagliari, emerging as a key cog in the club’s second line of press.
What makes him such a sought-after prospect in the Italian market is his aggression and work ethic. Indeed, the Uruguayan international is a tireless runner who is never shy when it comes to putting pressure on the opposition.
Nandez might not be the most creative player in Cagliari, but he can certainly make up for it with his tenacity and versatility. In addition, the midfielder offers significant experience at the highest level of football, having already won 41 caps for Uruguay while making a combined total of almost 150 appearances for Boca Juniors and Cagliari.
A Good Investment For Leeds United?
Leeds United’s opening day loss to Manchester United exposed many underlying issues in midfield. They were completely dominated by the likes of Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes, with the absence of Kalvin Phillips leading to a lack of cohesion in the middle of the park.
Nandez is certainly not a like for like alternative for Phillips. But the Uruguayan international can certainly offer the aggression and tenacity required to further strengthen the ranks in the second line of press for Leeds United.
Moreover, the Cagliari star can serve as a competitor for the likes of Mateusz Klich and Rodrigo in the advanced midfield roles while offering backup for Raphinha out wide. His versatility could indeed open a host of tactical possibilities for Marcelo Bielsa.
However, whether or not Nandez would be a good investment for Leeds United will depend on his price tag. The report fails to mention the player’s valuation but anything more than the €25 million mark makes him a risky target, as the midfielder may not offer enough quality to the table to justify his cost.
