According to Alan Nixon, Leeds United can have Ryan Kent for just €15 million this summer. The Premier League club had recently been in contact with Rangers over the services of the former Liverpool winger, but talks haven’t quite progressed. Nixon believes that a fee of €15 million should be enough to prise him away from Ibrox, although he has expressed his doubts over the deal happening anytime soon.
Ryan Kent’s Success At Rangers
Ryan Kent has become a huge success for Rangers since joining the club on a season-long loan deal in 2019. The winger had made a decent impact in his first season in Scotland, being involved in a total of 12 goals. It compelled the Scottish giants to make his move permanent for a fee of around €7 million.
Since then, Kent has become a household name in Scotland, making over 130 competitive appearances for Rangers. He has been involved in over 50 goals, with his 21 goal involvement last season playing a vital role in helping Rangers secure the Scottish Premiership title, thus breaking Celtic’s hegemony over the league.
Under the leadership of Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, the 24-year-old has become a well-accomplished attacker who can offer a lot of dynamism in the final third. Although a left-winger by trade, he can operate anywhere in the final third, which is indicative of the Englishman’s versatility going forward.
However, what makes Kent such a sought-after prospect is his productivity. As mentioned earlier, his goals and assists have played a key behind Rangers’ dominance in Scottish football in the recent years whilst turning him into a more complete winger.
Should Leeds United Make The Move?
Leeds United have endured a disastrous start to their Premier League campaign, slumping to a 5-1 loss at the hands of rivals of Manchester United. While the performance did not highlight any issues going forward, the team certainly requires more depth in the attacking department.
Raphinha and Jack Harrison remain guaranteed first-term starters out on the wings, but Marcelo Bielsa lacks any viable alternative. Helder Costa hasn’t shown enough quality while Ian Poveda’s growth at Elland Road has somewhat stalled.
The addition of someone like Ryan Kent, in that regard, should prove to be a smart investment for Leeds United. The former Liverpool winger may not have had much experience in the Premier League, but his overwhelming success at Rangers makes him a viable option for the club.
Tactically, Kent should be a competitor for Harrison while his versatility should open up multiple tactical possibilities for Bielsa. And for a fee of just €15 million, he could indeed be a good option for the Whites.
