The Mirror has recently reported that Leeds United are hoping to keep Patrick Bamford at Elland Road amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur this summer. It is believed that the Whites are planning to tie the English forward down to a long-term contract with his current deal set to expire in the summer of 2023.
Bamford’s Decent Run Of Form At Elland Road Last Season
Bamford has an impressive season at the Yorkshire club in the previous campaign when he established himself as one of the top performers in Marcelo Bielsa’s starting XI. The English frontman netted 17 goals and provided eight assists in 38 matches for the Whites last season in various competitions.
The Grantham-born sensation worked his socks off for Leeds in the final third as he averaged 2.8 shots, 0.8 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. The 27-year-old also distributed possession quite well in the opposition half after making 77.3% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
Bamford is currently playing some of the best football of his career, so he has no immediate need for a change of scenery. Bielsa has managed to get the best out of him over the past 18 months, so Leeds should think about offering him a new, lucrative contract to keep hold of him for the long run.
Can Bielsa Afford To Lose Bamford This Summer?
Bamford has proven himself to be a decent finisher in the attacking end of the field. He can also contribute by picking up his fair share of assists in the opponent’s half. Furthermore, the English talent has got a good work rate and is proficient at leading the press for his team high up the field.
Standing at 1.85m, the two-time England Under-21 international can be a real handful for his marker up top. However, he can sometimes have a bad game because of Bielsa’s aggressive playing style at Elland Road.
At 27, Bamford is enjoying the peak of his career at the moment, so the Whites can expect to make the most out of his talents in the coming seasons. He is a talented centre-forward, who Bielsa simply cannot afford to let go this late in this transfer window. The Leeds boss would be better off rejecting any offers for Bamford as he is far too valuable for the Yorkshire giants to lose this month. Plus, Bielsa won’t have enough time to find a suitable replacement, so he should prioritize on keeping hold of Bamford beyond this summer.
