Manchester United will lock horns with Southampton at St. Mary’s on Sunday afternoon, hoping to pick up all three points in the second game of the campaign. The Red Devils will be coming into the match on the back of a thumping 5-1 win over Leeds United, whereas Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men recorded a 3-1 loss against Everton last week.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will probably opt for the 4-2-3-1 formation with a couple of tweaks from the last game as Jadon Sancho looks likely to get the nod over Daniel James.
4-2-3-1 Predicted Manchester United Lineup Vs Southampton
Defence
David de Gea is expected to start in goal for the upcoming clash. The Spanish shot-stopper would be looking to put up a strong performance and secure a clean sheet on Sunday.
Dean Henderson has recovered from the after-effects of coronavirus, but he’s still quite far from making it into the starting eleven.
Victor Lindelof, who got himself an assist last week, will form the centre-half partnership with skipper Harry Maguire at the heart of United’s backline.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka is a guaranteed starter at the right-back position, whereas Luke Shaw will fill in on the other flank as the left-back. The English duo would be expected to stay compact and keep their shape defensively.
Midfield
Scott McTominay is expected to start in the central midfield position, whereas Fred will slot in as the defensive midfielder.
Bruno Fernandes remains a sure-fire starter for United this week, and it’ll be an understatement to say The Red Devils will be highly dependent on the Portugal international’s creative work if they wish to pick up a positive result on Sunday.
Paul Pogba and Jadon Sancho will take up the wide positions, playing on the right and left-wing respectively.
Attack
Mason Greenwood is expected to lead the line for the visitors against Southampton on Sunday. The 19-year-old striker put up a phenomenal team performance against Leeds United last week as he got his name on the scoresheet, and he would be definitely looking forward to finding the back of the net again this weekend.
Veteran striker Edinson Cavani might come on to make a cameo appearance in the second half if needed.
