Manchester City clashed heads with Norwich City at the Etihad earlier this evening as they looked to secure all three points on the second day of their campaign. The hosts tore apart Norwich City’s defence as Jack Grealish, Aymeric Laporte, Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez got their names on the scoresheet to secure a thumping 5-0 victory.
Let’s take a look at how each Manchester City player fared during the match against The Canaries.
Manchester City Players Rated In Win Vs Norwich City
Ederson 7
It would be fair to say that the Brazilian shot-stopper had absolutely nothing to do in between the sticks tonight as the visitors failed to manage even a single shot on target over the course of the match.
Kyle Walker 7
The Englishman took up an advanced position down the right flank and supported his side’s attacking gameplay.
Aymeric Laporte 8
The Spaniard put up a solid performance defensively and even got his name on the scoresheet following a set-piece situation in the second half.
Ruben Dias 7.5
The Portuguese centre-back didn’t have too much defending to do throughout the match, but he dealt well with whatever was thrown at him. He also got himself the assist for Riyad Mahrez’s goal.
Joao Cancelo 7
Cancelo made some brilliant overlapping runs to support Jack Grealish down the left flank and even set up a few chances for his teammates.
Rodri 7
The 25-year-old was relieved of his defensive duties tonight, so he took up a more central position and distributed the ball impressively. He also made some crunching tackles at the centre of the park to win the ball back for his side.
Ilkay Gundogan 8
The German international might not grab the headlines of the papers tomorrow, but without his tremendous work rate, it would have been impossible for Guardiola’s men to put up such a dominant performance. He took up all the right positions at the right time to create the chances for his side.
Bernardo Silva 7
The Portuguese playmaker was assigned a free role in midfield as his swift movement created all sorts of problems for the Norwich defence.
Jack Grealish 8
A goal on his home debut and a brilliant performance overall.
Every time he got the ball, he tried cutting inside from the left-wing, which in turn drew a couple of defenders towards him, thereby creating pockets of space for the frontmen.
Ferran Torres 7
He got himself a goal in the first half, but it was ruled offside.
Gabriel Jesus 8.5
The Brazilian striker was surprisingly deployed down the right flank today.
He wreaked havoc on the opposition defence by bagging two assists and forcing an own goal off Tim Krul.
