Manchester United clashed heads with Leeds United at Old Trafford earlier this afternoon as they looked to secure all three points on the campaign’s opening day. The hosts tore apart Leeds’ defence as Bruno Fernandes, Mason Greenwood, and Fred got their names on the scoresheet to secure a thumping 5-1 victory.
Let’s take a look at how each Manchester United player fared during the match against The Whites.
Manchester United Players Rated In Win Vs Leeds United
David de Gea 6
The Spanish shot-stopper didn’t have much to do this afternoon as the visitors had just three shots on target. There is nothing he could have to stop Luke Ayling’s shot, either.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka 7
The Englishman put up a solid performance at the back and even pushed high up the field on a couple of occasions.
Victor Lindelof 8
The Swedish centre-back won some crucial headers and made numerous important challenges to keep things tidy at the back. He even played a fantastic long ball to Fernandes, which led to his third goal of the match.
Harry Maguire 8
The skipper was very calm and composed at the heart of the defence as he made several important blocks and timed his tackles perfectly to deal with whatever was thrown at him.
Luke Shaw 7.5
Shaw made some good overlapping runs to support his side’s attacking gameplay down the left flank and even set up a few chances for his teammates.
Fred 8
The Brazilian midfielder scored the fifth goal of the game to secure a 5-1 win for the hosts.
Scott McTominay 7.5
The Scottish international dropped deep to shield his side’s back four, and his ball distribution was quite impressive as well.
Daniel James 7
The Welshman linked up the play extremely well, and his swift movement created all sorts of problems for the Leeds defence; however, he was awful in the final third.
Paul Pogba 10
The Frenchman put up one of his best performances in the United jersey today as he recorded four assists in 70 minutes. He coordinated brilliantly with his teammates and made chance creation and conversion easier for his side.
Bruno Fernandes 10
The Portuguese Magnifico tore apart the opposition defence as he bagged a hat-trick on the opening day of the campaign. His link-up play with Paul Pogba was simply out of the world.
Mason Greenwood 8.5
The 19-year-old striker looked very dangerous over the course of the 90 minutes, and he even scored the second goal of the game to put his side in the lead.
