Tuttosport has recently reported that Everton are showing interest in Lazio forward Joaquin Correa this summer. It is believed that the Toffees ‘are the most forward’ to land the Argentine striker but are yet to launch a move for him (via Tuttosport).
Correa’s Impressive Numbers In Italian Football Last Season
It was an impressive campaign for the 26-year-old at the Stadio Olimpico as he put in quite a few eye-catching displays as a key member of the Lazio attack. Correa found the back of the net on 11 occasions and secured six assists in 38 matches for the Italian outfit last season in multiple competitions.
The ex-Sevilla talent gave a good account of himself in the attacking end of the pitch by averaging 1.9 shots, 1.0 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. He even distributed the ball relatively well after completing 83.2% of his attempted passes in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
Correa’s current contract with Lazio is set to run out in the summer of 2024, so it would take a big offer for the Toffees to have a chance of recruiting him during this summer transfer window. At 26, he is playing at his prime at the moment which makes him a good option for Everton to consider before the start of the new season.
What Will Correa Bring To Goodison Park?
Correa is a quick and agile striker who can make some well-timed runs in behind the opponent’s backline. He deserves credit for adding plenty of goals and assists to his game last season. The Argentine sensation is an exciting dribbler with the ball at his feet and can create some decent openings for others around him. He can also be a composed finisher up top but there are some concerns over whether he can cope with the physical nature of Premier League football if the Toffees manage to land him in this off-season.
Correa has proven himself to be a valuable member of Lazio’s match-day squad. Hence, he could play a similar role for Everton if they can find a way to bring him to the blue half of Merseyside this summer. The Argentine attacker will offer some serious competition for Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the race to earn a regular starting place in Rafael Benitez’s first XI in the upcoming campaign.
We can expect Correa to bring a lot of pace and goals to Benitez’s attack, so the Merseyside outfit should consider launching a move to secure the services of the talented forward before the end of this transfer window.
