In a recent report, The Sun mentioned that Chelsea playmaker Ruben Loftus-Cheek is set for another loan spell this summer. It is believed that the Blues are looking to loan the English midfielder out to the Bundesliga but Southampton are also interested in securing his services for the 2021-22 campaign (via The Sun).
Loftus-Cheek’s Underwhelming Loan Spell At Craven Cottage
Loftus-Cheek had a frustrating loan spell at Fulham last season when he struggled to give a good account of himself in English football. The 25-year-old made 33 appearances for the London outfit in the previous campaign, netting one goal in the process across all competitions.
The English midfield ace was far from convincing with his performances for the Cottagers at the centre of the park as he averaged 0.8 tackles, 0.5 clearances, 1.2 shots, 0.6 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. However, he distributed possession quite well from midfield after completing 80.7% of his attempted passes in the English top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Loftus-Cheek is currently in dire need to find some consistency at the highest level. Therefore, it makes a lot of sense for him to seal a loan move away from West London during this summer transfer window.
Does Loftus-Cheek Have A Future At Stamford Bridge?
Loftus-Cheek is proficient at making some energetic runs with the ball from midfield. He can retain possession quite well at the centre of the park and is not shy of having a strike at goal from long range. The English midfield ace can even create plays for others around him but has to figure out a way to be more decisive in the final third. Loftus-Cheek has a good variety of passes in his locker and tends to pull off a few clever turns in the opposition half.
At the moment, Thomas Tuchel cannot afford to offer him regular playing minutes at Stamford Bridge, so it is only logical for the player to go out on loan so that he can find some form at the top level. Loftus-Cheek is a talented midfielder who could excel playing in German football in the upcoming campaign.
At 25, the ten-time England international is about to enter his prime and has got three years remaining in his Chelsea contract. Therefore, he could still have a bright future at West London if he can have a good loan spell in top-flight football over the next 12 months. With all things considered, Loftus-Cheek should welcome a change of scenery as the Blues have already got a strong squad capable of challenging for the Premier League title next season.
