Fichajes has recently reported that Chelsea are among several clubs interested in Real Madrid playmaker Martin Odegaard this summer. It is believed that the Blues will have to rival Liverpool and Arsenal in the race to sign the Norwegian talent during this summer transfer period (via Fichajes).
Odegaard’s Impressive Loan Spell At The Emirates Stadium
Odegaard had an impressive six-month loan spell with the Gunners last season when he caught the eye by putting in a few encouraging displays as a key member of Mikel Arteta’s attack. The 22-year-old appeared in 20 matches for the North London outfit in the previous campaign, scoring two goals and grabbing two assists across all competitions.
The Drammen-born sensation did well to average 1.1 shots, 1.4 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. He has even been excellent when distributing possession in the opposition half based on his pass completion rate of 90.9% in the English top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Odegaard has got the ceiling to become a world-class attacker someday, so it would be a massive coup for the Blues if they can find a way to bring the Norway international to Stamford Bridge in this off-season.
Will Odegaard Be A Good Option For The Blues?
Odegaard can create some decent chances for others around him and is proficient at making some clever runs with the ball towards the opponent’s penalty area. He has a knack for finding space in the final third that helps him get a few shots in on-target.
The 30-time Norway international has a low centre of gravity and can cause a lot of problems for the opposition defenders when he is playing well on the pitch. However, he needs to add more goals and assists to his game if he intends to become a success story at the highest level. There are also some concerns over his health as he has missed a lot of key matches because of multiple injuries.
Tuchel would be wise to engineer a move to acquire the services of Odegaard as he could grow into a future star at the West London club. Furthermore, the Real Madrid youngster will offer some serious competition for Mason Mount and Kai Havertz at Stamford Bridge next season. Thus, Odegaard would be a decent option for the reigning UEFA Champions League winners before the start of the new campaign.
