Manchester United fans have gone from a state of misery to a jubilance in the space of a day. Former United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo was reported to be close to joining bitter rivals Manchester City at one point. Then news circulated like wildfire as they pulled out of the move, and United swooped in to bring their superstar home.
United have already done great business over the summer. They have brought in Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane from Dortmund and Real Madrid respectively. However, the announcement of the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo has just put a cherry on top.
If Solskjaer manages to get his hands on all the players fit and available, United fans might see a lineup like the one below.
Best Possible United Line Up Including Ronaldo
Defence
David De Gea will be their custodian at the back. Although there has been criticism over the Spaniard’s ability over the last two seasons, he is still the best keeper United have in their ranks.
Luke Shaw has been absolutely world-class over the last year or so. He had an amazing Euros with England as well. Although he faces strong competition from Alex Telles, Shaw’s defensive awareness will put him in a better spot to start at the left side of the defence.
Raphael Varane needs no introduction to any football fan. The Frenchman has been a rock at the back for Madrid for the last 7 years. He slots straight into one of the centre back spots. Varane will be partnered with Harry Maguire as the latter has stepped up his game recently. He will be hoping to continue on the same trajectory. Together these two will complement each other in United’s approach of building from the back.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s spot at the right-hand side of the defence is not under any threat at the moment. His defensive capability is under no scrutiny. However, United will look to bring in someone to rival that spot or at least for cover.
Midfield
Solskjaer has been deploying the team with a double pivot since his arrival. Keeping that in mind, either Matic or Fred will be a guaranteed starter in the middle of the park. Talismanic Frenchman Paul Pogba has been usually deployed on the left-hand side of midfield. He will look to come back into the midfield to his more natural position and pull strings around the field with his passing range.
Bruno Fernandes has been undroppable since his arrival at the club. He has been United’s best performer during that time. The former Sporting player will play a more attacking role in midfield and will look to combine with the forwards. Jadon Sancho will start at the right-hand side of the midfield. Sancho was a treat to watch in Germany, and the fans will be expecting a similar type of flair from the exciting English winger.
Marcus Rashford has been a saviour for United on countless occasions as well as for his fellow countrymen. He looks set to start at the left-hand side of the midfield once he is fit.
Attack
The main man himself, Cristiano Ronaldo, will be leading the line for United. The superstar has grown to be a lethal No. 9 from a prolific winger. The perfect poacher in the modern game will be looking to hit similar heights as he did during his past tenure. While strikers usually need time to fit in the English league, the defence of other teams will be the ones needing time to cope with him upfront.
Manchester United fans should be over the moon with the business their club have managed to pull off. Their team, on paper, looks capable of beating any opposition on any given day. Glory times for the United fans indeed.
