Arsenal had a horrible start to their 2021-22 season as they lost against newly-promoted Brentford. The Bees exploited every corner of the lethargic Gunners squad and Mikel Arteta’s men had no answer. It is pretty evident that the London side are short in their creative department. However, the approach to strengthen the same has been baffling. Martin Odegaard and James Maddison were linked heavily to Arsenal but the Gunners backed off as the duo were beyond their reach financially.
The Spanish manager however has been a long term admirer of Philippe Coutinho of Barcelona. If the recent report of Mirror is anything to go by, the Brazilian has probably convinced Arsenal that his recent knee injury will not be an issue as the north London club make their move for the Barcelona man.
Coutinho’s Horrific Stay At Spain
Philippe Coutinho joined Barcelona in 2018 after four terrific seasons at Liverpool. He set the world alight at Merseyside but failed to carry over the same form in Spain. After initial struggles at Barca, the Brazillian was shifted out to Bayern on loan. Barcelona’s worst nightmare came to life as the Brazillian scored twice in their 8-2 defeat at the hands of the German club.
After Coutinho returned to Spain, he never managed to solidify his spot in the first team. He mainly featured in the cup games and against lesser teams.
Will Coutinho Fit In At Arsenal
The 29 years old is presumably past his best years but is still capable of producing genius moments. The former Liverpool man will bring vast experience with him, something which the Gunners are lacking at the moment.
Emile Smith Rowe has shown massive potential over the last few months but lacks that cutting edge in attack. The young starlet will massively benefit from Coutinho’s arrival. Mikel Arteta has no other option but to reinforce his creative department this summer and Coutinho looks like just the man considering their budget.
