In a recent report, Sport mentioned that Barcelona have been offered a chance to recruit Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Rafa Mir. It is understood that the Spanish striker’s agent, Jorge Mendes has offered him to the Catalan club (via Sport).
Mir’s Impressive Loan Spell At Estadio El Alcoraz
Mir recently made a name for himself in the Olympics as he scored a hattrick against Ivory Coast to get Spain through to the semifinal stage of the competition. The Murcia-born talent had a fruitful loan spell at SD Huesca last season when he managed to find consistency for them in front of the opponent’s goal.
The 24-year-old appeared in 39 matches for the Spanish outfit in the previous campaign, netting 16 goals and picking up one assist in the process across various competitions. Mir struggled to be influential in the final third as he averaged 3.2 shots, 0.2 key passes and 0.4 dribbles per game in La Liga last season. He was also poor with his link-up play in the opposition half as he completed just 57.4% of his attempted passes in the Spanish first division (stats via whoscored).
Mir has just got a year remaining in his current contract at the Molineux Stadium, so Barca could potentially land him for a cut-price fee before the start of the new campaign. At 24, the Spaniard’s best years are ahead of him which makes him a good long-term option for the Catalans to consider this summer.
Should Barcelona Get Mir On Board This Summer?
Mir is a moderately-paced striker who is transforming himself into a consistent goal-getter at the highest level. He is usually composed on the ball and can make some clever turns to deceive his marker in the final third.
Standing at 1.91m, the Spaniard can dominate the opposition in the air and is a very good header of the ball. However, he needs to work on improving his link-up play if he wants to be a success story in European football.
Mir is good enough to add a lot of goals and physicality to Ronald Koeman’s attack. However, he is unlikely to be a regular starter at the Nou Camp which could hamper the player’s development in the long run.
However, the Catalan giants can definitely use someone of the Spanish striker’s talents, especially if they end up losing Antoine Griezmann this summer. All in all, Koeman should consider getting Mir on board on a cut-price deal during this summer transfer window as there is no doubt that he will enhance the overall depth of their squad.
