Aston Villa have confirmed on their official website that they have completed the capture of Leon Bailey from Bayer 04 Leverkusen. It has been revealed that the Jamaica international completed his medical before putting pen to paper on a contract with the Villans that runs out in the summer of 2025 (via www.avfc.co.uk).
Bailey’s Outstanding Numbers In German Football Last Season
Bailey had a great season at the BayArena as he put in several influential displays as a key member of the Leverkusen attack. The 23-year-old registered 15 goals and 11 assists in 40 appearances for the German club in the previous campaign across all competitions.
The Kingston-born sensation proved his worth as a productive winger by averaging 1.9 shots, 1.6 key passes, 1.3 crosses and 2.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. He has even been excellent when interchanging possession with his teammates in the final third after making 78.1% of his attempted passes in the German top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Bailey was one of the best wide players in German football last season, so he could turn out to be a shrewd signing for the Villans in this off-season. At 23, the Jamaican wing wizard is only going to get better with each season, so Dean Smith can expect to make the most out of his talents in the years to come.
What Will Bailey Bring To Villa Park?
Bailey can use his electric pace to get the better of his marker out on the wide areas. He is proficient at getting to the byline and can whip in a few dangerous crosses into the opposition penalty box. The nine-time Jamaica international has added plenty of goals and assists to his game over the past 12 months, so he is well-equipped to be a success story at Villa Park in the coming seasons.
Bailey is already good enough to secure a regular starting place at the West Midlands club in the upcoming campaign. Furthermore, he could go on to form a productive attacking partnership with Ollie Watkins and Bertrand Traore at Villa Park over the next few years.
The promising wide player might even help the Villans push for a European place in the Premier League next season. Hence, Smith has done well to acquire Bailey’s signature this summer as he will bring a lot of goals and creativity to his front line. However, only time will tell whether he can make a smooth transition to life in England.
