According to Fichajes, Alexandre Lacazette has been offered to Barcelona. Arsenal are keen on offloading the forward within the remaining days of the transfer market and teams from the MLS, Qatari League or CSL are in contention to snap him up. However, Lacazette believes he can still land an elite team in Europe, which is why he has been offered to FC Barcelona, along with Juventus and Olympique Lyon.
Lacazette’s Current Status At Arsenal
Alexandre Lacazette has a record of scoring 66 goals in 172 competitive matches for Arsenal since joining the club in 2017. However, his current contract at Emirates expires at the end of the campaign.
But perhaps more importantly, the forward has fallen out of favour at Arsenal in recent years. Especially after the arrival of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, his importance in the team has greatly reduced, with the former Lyon star often playing as a second fiddle to the Gabonese international.
Under Mikel Arteta, Lacazette hasn’t been favoured much at all. His performances have greatly dipped, with the Frenchman making just one appearance in the Premier League so far this season. It appears he has fallen behind not only Aubameyang but also the young duo of Gabriel Martinelli and Folarin Balogun in the pecking order.
A move away from Emirates, therefore, appears to be the best option, especially with his contract at North London expiring at the end of the season. Arsenal certainly wouldn’t want to lose him for free so it is imperative for them to get rid of him before the transfer market slams to a shut in a few days.
What’s Next For The Striker?
Lacazette’s departure from Emirates will now open up many possibilities for the player. He has been suggested to play in a less demanding league, with Major League Soccer, Chinese Super League and the Qatari League emerging as potential options.
However, the most noticeable club Lacazette has been linked with has been FC Barcelona. The Spanish giants are hoping to recover from the loss of Lionel Messi by adding more attacking depth to the squad, with their marquee summer signing Sergio Aguero is currently out injured.
Memphis Depay has operated as the main centre forward so far, with Martin Braithwaite playing out wide. Lacazette, to that end, should be an interesting addition to this Barcelona squad.
The Frenchman can realistically compete with the likes of Depay, Braithwaite and Aguero for a place in the first-team, and more importantly, offer the depth that could be crucial in such a long season. But for a fee of €15 million, it appears unlikely that the move will ever materialise.
